Somalia today remains the most dangerous country in the world for children and youth, according to The State of the World’s Children 2012 report Somalia’s Gross enrolment rate is around 32% it also has the world’s highest child mortality rate. But despite this bleak national tragedy, there are signs of growing opportunity. In this year, the Somali government has devoted greater policy attention and resources to the education and health sector than any other time, and Minister of Human Development and Public Services is beginning to tackle the challenge in a strategic and comprehensive way.

Somalia is at a crossroad

Somalia is at a crossroad, as we approach the deadline of the mandate of the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia, once again there is growing international attention on Somalia.

After the recent London Conference and before the Istanbul Conference, and while the Somali crisis edging towards its third decade, is there any more that the international community can do? What could the Somali diaspora do to participate in these new initiatives and how they can prevent the possibility of their future failures?
